A doctoral supervisor, he graduated with a master's degree from the China Academy of Art in 1991. Once served as the deputy dean and professor of the Shanghai Design College of the China Academy of Art; as a professor, deputy dean, and member of the university teaching committee at the College of Design, East China Normal University. He also serves as a distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor at the Faculty of Humanities and Arts, Macau University of Science and Technology.

The research directions include environmental design and historical research, research on handicrafts and intangible cultural heritages, research on urban renewal and sustainable development, etc. He has published several academic monographs and won awards, such as *Encyclopedia of China•Volume of Fine Arts*, *Craft and Industrial Design*, *Environmental Art Design*, *A Brief History of Landscape Art*, *A Brief History of Design for Creation*, *History of Landscape Architecture*, etc. He has edited several series of teaching materials for the environmental design major (more than 50 kinds have been published, among which the "Series of Teaching Materials for the Environmental Design Major in Chinese Institutions of Higher Learning" won the second prize of the teaching achievement award in 2009).

He has presided over a number of major scientific research projects and design projects, including the architectural and interior exhibition design of the Yangtze River Estuary Science Museum in Shanghai (2007); the exhibition design of the World Expo History Pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo (2009); *Encyclopedia of China•Volume of Fine Arts* (compilation work for a major national publishing project during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, 2010); "Tourism Planning for Jingsheng Ancient Town, a Famous Historical Town in China" (2012); "Research on the Current Situation of Macau's Urban Culture and Creative Industries" (2017), etc.
