    About us

The School of Design and Innovation is based on the demand for creative design talents in Shenzhen and the country. It faces the development of future industries, gives full play to the resource advantages of Shenzhen as a "City of Design", and cultivates first-class applied creative design talents. The school attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' practical abilities, strengthens school-enterprise cooperation and the integration of production, education, and research. Adhering to the school-running philosophy of "derived from practice, oriented towards application, rooted in the local area, and with a global vision", and following the principles of scientific rigor, strengthening characteristics, enriching connotations, and steady development, it highlights the "craftsman characteristics", focuses on a solid foundation, a broad range of majors, and emphasizes practice, aiming to cultivate high-quality design talents who can adapt to the development of the era of digitalization, internationalization, and artificial intelligence in the future. It strengthens the teaching system of experiential practice, the combination of learning and application, and problem-based learning, and constructs a cross-border integrated and mutually supportive teaching major system. It provides high-quality talent motivation and human resources for Shenzhen's innovation-driven development strategy and industrial transformation and upgrading, and explores a new path for the reform and innovation of higher design education nationwide.

Currently, four majors have been established, namely Industrial Design (enrolling professional master's students), Environmental Design, Art and Technology, and New Media Art. Advanced teaching and scientific research experimental environments, such as the Digital Rapid Prototyping Laboratory and the Multimodal Ergonomics Laboratory, have been built. Teachers and students have achieved excellent results in school-enterprise cooperation projects and important domestic and international design competitions such as the Red Dot and iF Design Awards. The school attaches great importance to international education and has established cooperative relationships with more than 10 foreign institutions, including the University of Toronto, the University of Canberra in Australia, and the University for the Creative Arts in the UK.

In the future, the school plans to set up emerging design majors and establish a first-level master's degree program in Design. It will recruit talents globally to build a first-class teaching staff. It will highlight practical teaching, focus on the integration of industry and education, draw on international advanced applied talent cultivation models such as those in Germany, and build a world-class scientific research and teaching experimental platform.
