    Industrial Design

This major is dedicated to nurturing high - caliber applied industrial design talents. It emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, as well as the equal importance of concepts and capabilities. Set against the backdrop of a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, symbolized by big data and artificial intelligence, and in response to contemporary demands, it is oriented towards the emerging and future industries in Shenzhen and the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area. With an emphasis on fostering an interdisciplinary research culture, it constructs a collaborative platform that unites multiple disciplines, including design, information, science, and engineering.

Graduates of this major will possess a humanistic spirit and an international outlook, along with solid creative thinking in industrial design and an innovative mindset. They will be well - equipped to engage in professional design, product R & D, design management, and other relevant fields, and will be highly adaptable to the development trends of the future digital and AI - driven era.

The industrial design major encompasses three main sub - directions: product design, interaction design, and transportation design. It has the authorization to enroll postgraduate students in industrial design at the master's level. Leveraging the resources of the industrial design research team, it has established research platforms such as the Industrial Design Innovation Center of the Greater Bay Area Assistive Devices Innovation Center and the Innovation Design Research Institute of the China Industrial Design Association (in the medical device domain).

Product Design Sub - direction: Centering on industrial products as the primary design focus, this sub - direction emphasizes the acquisition and comprehensive application of knowledge in scientific and technological achievements, sociology, economics, culture, and aesthetics. Students will be trained to have the integrated innovation ability to optimize and integrate product elements, including functions, structures, forms, and packaging. The product design sub - direction has a broad industrial reach, mainly catering to modern industrial design sectors such as electronic product design, intelligent product design, household product design, medical and healthcare product design, and cultural and creative product design.

Transportation Design Sub - direction: With the rapid growth of the automotive industry, new energy vehicles and autonomous driving technologies have emerged as new frontiers in automotive design. Based on the design concepts and methods of transportation product styling, this sub - direction combines multiple disciplines, including art aesthetics, engineering manufacturing, social culture, and market economics. It aims to cultivate students' comprehensive skills in automotive styling design, HMI design, CMF design, clay modeling, and 3D modeling. This enables students to contribute to the design and innovation of personal and public transportation, covering aspects such as automotive styling, comfort, safety, and usability.

Interaction Design Sub - direction: With software products as the main design objects, this sub - direction is concerned with the information architecture design, task flow design, and UI design of products. It focuses on developing students' capabilities in pre - design research, data analysis, and clear design logic. Moreover, it instills in students a people - centered design philosophy, teaching them to pay close attention to user needs and ensure the practicality and feasibility of their design works.
